Mark and Jenny Fraser and "Kiwi Express"
Mark and Jenny Fraser have always been happiest either on the water or in the bush. The purchase of Kapiti Marine Charter in 2014 combined Marks experience as a Kapiti coast skipper with Jenny's love of the bush and guiding/tourism experience.
Mark started exploring the coastal waters off Kapiti Island as a teenager and this recreational diving and fishing experience led him into a career as a commercial fisherman, a charter boat operator and from 2009 to 2014 the skipper on the 10m Kapiti Island ferry "Te Aihe".
Jenny knew from an early age she was happiest outdoors and her initial career was in the Horticultural sector. Flower growing/wholesaling were followed by a foray into the business world with tourism, a paua aquaculture project and a NZ Aid project in Samoa were highlights in recent years. Exploring the bush with a Kapiti tramping group is a favourite pastime and adds to Jenny's extensive knowledge of NZ flora and fauna.
"Kiwi Express" is a purpose built 11m jet boat. She has a Maritime New Zealand survey for 31 passengers and offers dry feet boarding and disembarking both at Paraparaumu Beach and at Kapiti Island. "Kiwi Express" has an incident free record and the boat and business have just entered into the new Maritime New Zealand safety system (MOSS) with a risk profile of "low". A jet boat is ideal for the shallow waters at Paraparaumu Beach and allows our ramp to be lowered onto the Island for dry feet disembarking at the Island.
Passengers are seated during the 15 minute journey to the Island in an enclosed cabin, while the clear sides offer great viewing opportunites.
Life jackets are not mandatory for a vessel of this size in enclosed waters BUT we have them available for all passengers from infants through to XXL and insist that all children and non swimmers do wear a life jacket.
